Following a disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services may not be able to meet the demand for these services immediately. Factors such as number of victims, communication failures and road blockages may prevent people from accessing emergency services that they have come to expect at a moments notice through 911. People may have to rely on themselves or each other in order to meet their immediate life-saving and life-sustaining needs.
The Town of Union CERT course will benefit anyone who takes it. This CERT course is a community outreach program intended to provide fundamental Disaster Preparedness skills to area residents, at no cost to them. The class will prepare those who attend to help save and sustain lives following a disaster while they wait for help to arrive. The skills taught apply to everyday emergencies, as well as, a major disaster.
It is a 24 hour course, delivered one evening per week over a 7 week period. Individual modules include:
Disaster Preparedness including Pandemic Awareness, Fire Safety,
Disaster Medical Operations, Light Search and Rescue, Team
Organization, Disaster Psychology, and Terrorism
All instructors are highly-qualified first responders from area Emergency Squads, Fire Departments, and Law Enforcement Agencies.
